What is the starting point for OPEP project?

In these times of economic depression and worrying high unemployment, most European countries have set up on the basis of Occupational Standards, so much the award and certification of qualifications, as well as the Initial and Continuing Vocational Education and Training curricula and programmes, with reference to the European tools of transparency (NQF, EQF), by using ECVET based methodologies. This increases the employability of people and help closing the gap between offer and demand on the labour market.

We intent to focus on opportunities and strengths of different countries methods, in transforming Occupational Profiles to educational and training curricula and programs.  The lack of a common European approach, due to different Vocational Training systems is a weakness and exactly this is the starting point of this project:  using existing cases in the different countries of our network in order to develop the basic outlines for an ECVED based method.

This has been the basis for starting out the " From Occupational Profiles to Educational programs and curricula" (O.P.E.P.) project, within the framework of LEONARDO DA VINCI Community initiative.

VET Organisations and social partners  with wide experience in vocational training and networking, from Greece, Belgium, Nederland’s, Spain, and Cyprus are forming the transnational partnership which will carry out the project.

What is our main objective?

The objective of this project is to work in a partnership, exchanging Knowledge and experiences, on the basic outlines in “translating” an “Occupational Profile” to educational and training curricula and programmes, using ECVET principles and leading to a common memorandum of understanding at European level in our network.

Here are the O.P.E.P. main activities that will be carried out in the framework of 6 workshops:

  • elaboration and testing, of a format of common quality criteria for all the participating countries, focused on the applied methods-practices in translating Occupational Profiles to vocational education and training curricula and programmes;
  • development of common guidelines concerning the existing methods and practices of curricula and programmes development in VET with reference to Occupational Profiles, based on the previous results;

The concrete objectives of partnership are the followings:

  • development and test of a format of quality criteria, identifying the strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats, per country, focused on the applied methods-practices in translating Occupational Profiles to vocational education and training programmes;
  • elaboration and presentation of national reports of quality criteria and development of common guidelines concerning the existing methods and practices of programmes development in VET with reference to Occupational Profiles;
  • exploitation of best practices in concrete examples on converting an ‘’Occupational Profile” (the same profession for every partner country if possible), to vocational education and training programmes, on ECVET based method and development of common guide lines;
  • elaboration of the synthesis of guidelines and drawing recommendations for the transformation;
  • 6 workshops-meetings have been planed to enable participants working together on the subject;
  • dissemination and exploitation plan of the project as a good practice of ECVET;
  • setting up a sustainable partnership in Europe.

The open dialogue between the partners, the exchange of knowledge and experience will help us to "learn in praxis".

What is our future aspiration?

We intent to use the results to set up a bigger future European project.
